Ending 2022. Times of Change.

2022 is coming to an end and much has changed over the past year, which will lead to more changes in 2023. Living a Sustainable Dream has been lying dormant since the end of summer this year. This past autumn was one of the most difficult in my 22 years of teaching. Losing a fellow teacher and friend to a premature death and illness was devastating. I am currently reevaluating my choice to remain as a teacher. After 22 years of teaching, I am finding myself drained as every bit of my creativity is required of me to create lessons and projects, to find innovative ways to work with troubled students, and work through the loss of another colleague with in six years.

The first draft of this post listed out the horrors and terrific pressures teachers face in this period in human history, but I deleted it. I figured why focus on the negative, but to focus more on the positives.

2023 is a year of opportunity. My folks are now in their 80s and have relocated close to where I live. I can now spend more time with them. My wife and I are planning a business venture together. Things are going to get tight financially, but my wife and I will hopefully be able to combine our creativity. Never had I had the time to really invest in such a venture accept when I quit teaching for a year to build our off grid cottage. Don’t worry, my wife and I work together fine; after all, we built this off grid paradise together. We will be directors of our own departments that will collaborate with each other. I have also been saving up for a shop. With hyperinflation that dream has been put on hold, but I am determined to make it happen, hopefully this summer, LORD willing.

To continue forward, we will be making changes to this website as time permits. We will still post as time allows, just a little lighter, like this format. I hope to rearrange the website into subject pages for those who only want information and separate the blog for those who are interested in the day to day life changing events.

We at Living a Sustainable Dream hope you are having a great New Year’s and Christmas Season.

In Loving memory of my friends and colleagues, John Stevens 2022 and Chris Goodwin 2016.

My wife and I are both teachers, we know what you would have likely written. We have’nt had the sad loses you have, but we are also getting out of schools this year. “The juice aint’ worth the squeeze!”

    • Jim, I have struggled with teaching for a while now.
Blessings to you and your wife in your journey. I believe as teachers we are gifted to teach ourselves to do anything. Opportunities always await us on the other side.
