How to Can Dill Pickles !!!

20170908_113645When my husband and I were living in a town of less than 100 people in Central Oregon, I tasted my first home canned dill pickle.  To say the least, I fell in love with them.  They tasted SO GOOD!  They were “dill-y”, had a great dill ping to them and the overall taste was amazing!  At this time, I had not grown much of anything, much less gardened.  I tucked this wonderful taste bud experience in my memory and knew that if I ever had a garden of my own, I would try to grow cucumbers and pickle them myself.

Now 7 years later, we are living on our own piece of dirt in an off grid home we built and I have a front garden and back orchard.  I have canned pickles for about 4 years now and I totally love it!!!!

20171027_213146_MultiIf you have not canned pickles before, I want to encourage you to try.  I use the recipe from the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving called Grandma’s Dill Pickles.  You will not be sorry when you taste your first batch of home canned Dill Pickles!

May you enjoy my video.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I’ve tried pickles once–and just once–because they turned out HORRIBLE!!! I have no idea what I did wrong. The only thing I can think is that my mom left out something in her recipe when she gave it to me because they were NOTHING like my grandma’s. Lol
