Feeling under the weather? Give your immune system a boost.

This past couple of weeks, I have developed a head cold that causes dizziness, headaches, and fatigue.  I am able to function at my work and home only because of boosting my immune system with vitamin C and grapefruit seed extract.  For some reason, these two combined together keeps my body from completely collapsing to the point of being bed ridden.

The 3 musketeers plus one... Ester C, Grapefruit Seed Extract, and Vick's Baby Vapor Rub, plus Ricola cough drops to make it through the day.

The 3 musketeers, plus one… Ester-C, Grapefruit Seed Extract, and Vick’s Baby Vapor Rub, plus Ricola cough drops to make it through the day.

When we first moved to Northern Idaho, we became acquaintances and friends with the owners of a health store; they sold herbs, vitamins and other natural health supplements.  During that first winter, my wife and I developed a cold and we proceeded to search for something to cure it.  The owner of the store educated me on the health benefits of taking grapefruit seed extract.  Now, everyday before I go to work, I take a small dose, and I take another small dose before I go to sleep at night.  Generally, this keeps me from getting sick.  However, if I slack off and develop a tickle in my throat, a clogging of the ears, or pressure on the sinuses, I double up on my morning and evening doses.  When both my son and wife came down with a terrible cold, I was able to ride untouched for a few weeks, but once the stress of work began to build and I was working later to keep caught up, my immune system began to crash.  I doubled up on vitamin C and grapefruit seed extract, but it was inevitable.  My cold is still hanging in the background a cough, headache, or running nose every now and then, but not consistent like the past week.

Prevent coughing while trying to sleep at night

The worst part of coughing is when I go to bed at night.  I may not have coughed all day and as soon as I am ready to go to sleep, I begin to cough uncontrollably.  My father learned a trick and shared it with me.  I take Vick’s Baby Vapor Rub and rub it onto the arches of my feet.  Once I rub the vapor rub thoroughly in, I place some thin socks on, so I don’t get the oil on the sheets.  In about 5 – 15 minutes, I am no longer coughing and I can go to sleep. Weird, I know, but it works.

Now that I have been adhering to my regiment of two grapefruit seed extract and two vitamin C’s in the morning while using Vick’s Baby Vapor Rub each evening, I have been able to sustain without going over the edge.  However, I am looking forward to my next vacation in which I can be mellow and rest up.

Hopefully, this remedy helps you with your cold(s) in the future.  If you have a remedy for a quick recovery during cold and flu season, please share it below. I would love to hear your remedies.
