A year within a few weeks…

Getting up there... When a car hits 200,000 it generally means the car is on borrowed time and the resale value isn't worth much.

It feels like I have lived a year within the last couple of weeks.  Two weeks ago I was celebrating my parents 50th anniversary on the Big Island in Hawaii.  My credit card was shut down because I couldn’t pass the company’s security questions when I called to warn them I was in Hawaii.  Last week, I buried a friend and colleague from work; he was only 44.  That same week our son’s adoption was finalized, and his court documents were sent to us. Death and life in the same week. While driving to work this week, our car odometer flipped to 200,000 miles.  Final exams are this week, and since the funeral, I have had a difficult time grading papers.

A Beautiful Promise... A beautiful rainbow on the Big Island, the same day as my parents 50th anniversary and when I found out I was a pall bearer for my friend's funeral.

Today is Living a Sustainable Dream blog’s first anniversary.  Yet, it seems as if the past couple weeks have felt like a lifetime.  The month of March has been bitter and sweet.  I want to laugh when I cry and cry when I laugh.  Yesterday, was Good Friday, the day to celebrate Jesus giving his life for us by paying the price of death for our sins.  Anyone who believes in him and this act of humility to pay the price for our sins has been liberated from sin and death, forgiven.   Tomorrow is Easter in which Jesus rose from the grave because he himself had no sin and death could not bind him.  Yet, every account of Jesus after he had risen from the grave depicts  him scarred for eternity from the brutality of his crucifixion. However, those who die and proceed to Heaven receive new, perfect, unblemished bodies. The story is bitter-sweet. My heart is in between the crucifixion and resurrection today as I imagine how this day was almost two thousand years ago.

Adoption Finalized... Our son has been asking for the paper work since January. He just so happened to open the box on the day it arrived. Much celebration has occurred since and more to come.

We are planning an adoption party for our son next week.  We will have both our parents (his grandparents) and close friends in attendance.  Next Saturday, I will be on Spring Break and free from responsibilities at work for a week. We are ready to celebrate this life changing event for us all.

Blessings to all this Easter,

  1. I’ll be sending prayers and well wishes your way, as well as congratulations for your blessings. Your sweet boy officially has a wonderful home and family!
Life really is a mixed bag sometimes. I guess we’re along for the ride, and may as well savor the experiences, good or bad, for what they’re worth… it’s all a part of being alive! That said, thank you for sharing your experiences with us; it’s helping me to think objectively about my own. I’ve been needing that. 🙂
And thank the Lord, that He’s helping us through it all!
